As Provident Creator of all things, God loves and cares deeply about all of his creation and provides for his creatures. God gives each creature what it needs to survive and flourish in the world (see Matthew 6:25-34), so God indeed cares and provides for our needs. But does God care who wins an NBA championship? We could think of millions of greater cares. For instance, whether the poor are fed or not is a much greater concern to God (and hopefully to us) than a sports championship. But that only puts these things into perspective rather than claiming that something like a championship doesn’t matter at all. God cares about the poor and needy. God cares about the food we put into our body and the rest we get at night. God cares about the way we treat others. God cares about our travels, plans, dreams and desires. God also providentially cares for the Cavs and the Warriors and the effects that winning or losing brings. Above all, we must “seek first the kingdom of God” and see how a championship fits into this plan.
“Learn from the way the wild flowers grow…If God so clothes the grass of the field, will he not much more provide for you? So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’ Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides” (Matthew 6:28-30).

always and
for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father” - Ephesians 5:20
