This is not the usual type of question found on an E Card but keep reading and you’ll see why we chose it.
If you were to ask a non-Christian what they believe is the most important part of the year to a Christian, there is a very good chance the answer you would hear is “Christmas.” Truthfully, many Christians might give that same answer. And why not. The stores begin preparing for it before Halloween. Decorations in homes and throughout our communities are up before Thanksgiving and people can barely keep us with all the parties and social engagements leading up to the big day. It’s hard to deny that we put a huge amount of effort into our Christmas celebration. But according to the Church, Easter is the correct answer. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops say it best:
“The Easter Vigil is the "Mother of All Vigils."Easter Sunday, then, is the greatest of all Sundays, and Easter Time is the most important of all liturgical times. Easter is the celebration of the Lord's resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. There are 50 days of Easter from the first Sunday to Pentecost. It is characterized, above all, by the joy of glorified life and the victory over death, expressed most fully in the great resounding cry of the Christian: Alleluia! All faith flows from faith in the resurrection: "If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, is your faith." (1 Cor 15:14)”
I think everyone would agree that Christ’s victory over death deserves a 50 day celebration! During this time, Father Scott is accustomed to greeting people with, “How’s your Easter going?” So the next time you see him, beat him to the punch and wish him a HAPPY EASTER!
