In July of 2010, I started doing Youth Ministry at Ss. Robert and William. Fr John Betters brought me on board to get Life Teen implemented in the parish and build a culture of young people that wanted to grow closer to Christ. In 2013, Ss. Robert and William and St. John of the Cross came together to continue to grow and provide the best possible content for our youth. After much discernment and prayer and talking with Fr. John, Fr. Sal, and Fr. Scott, I have felt a call to step away from Youth Ministry and move on to the next thing that God is calling me to. We have found an amazing Youth Minister in Katie Fraser and she will be able to take Euclid Life Teen and EDGE to the next level. I want to write this in order to let the parish know as well as thank all of you and reflect on my time here.
First and foremost, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I would not be the man I am today without these 2 parishes. The endless love and support from these parishes has been absolutely incredible and I am forever in debt to all of you. I have been to many parishes and these church communities are the most loving and supportive I have come across. Fr. John, Fr. Sal, and Fr. Scott have offered nothing but constant support and mentoring in everything that we have been able to do and I step away from this position with confidence that Euclid Life Teen and EDGE will continue to grow and flourish because of all of this support.
Over the past 6 years, we have done many things. While maintaining a consistent schedule of Life Nights and Bible Studies, we added many things. Our Bible Study turned into Areopagus which is a coffeehouse-style discussion on social topics. We saw a need to minister to those in 7th and 8th grade and we started up EDGE which has become wildly successful and continues to grow. From weekend retreats to youth conferences, we have kept up a busy schedule and we look to keep that pace going even as I step down.
As of this date, we have helped 1 teen go to the seminary with a few others discerning. We have at least 1 young woman who will be entering into a religious order next year as well as a number of others that are open to the call. We have helped teens that were engaging in illegal activity and self-harm, and we ministered to teens that are trying to grow closer to Christ. I share all of this because Euclid Life Teen and EDGE have been able to reach out to many, many teens and will continue to do so. A lot of this is thanks to you and your support and prayers.
Thank you for the past 6 years. It has been an amazing ride. I would not be where I am today without these formative years. The Core Staff has been absolutely amazing in helping get Euclid Life Teen and EDGE to where it is today and will continue to help it transition to the next chapter. I am eternally grateful to Fr. John, Fr. Sal, and Fr. Scott for all the love and support. In October I will be getting married and starting the next chapter in my own life. I ask for your prayers for my fiancé and myself so that we can continue to prepare for our life together and be able to accept what God has in store for us.
Thank you a million times over.
JMJ,
Chris Kelley
