Preparing a Funeral for a Loved One
We are here to pray with you and your family in your time of loss. Once you contact a funeral home, they will contact our parish. A priest from our parish will call you and set up a time to plan the Funeral Mass. If possible, a priest or member of the parish will also pray with your family at a Vigil Service (Wake) and offer Committal prayers at the cemetery. If no Funeral Mass is offered, the priest can celebrate a Funeral Liturgy outside Mass for the deceased, or a Memorial Mass for occasions where the body or cremains are not present. See below for details about these services.
Please consult our Funeral Planning Guide for suggestions on readings and hymns when planning a funeral. The back page can be filled out with your preferences and finalized with the priest.
Considering cremation? Please read the Cremation Guidelines compiled by a priest from our diocese using material from the Catechism & Ad Resurgendum cum Christo.
Meals can be arranged following funeral services through Mama Catena's restaurant. View their Memorial Menu for pricing.
Preparing for your Funeral
It is never to early to make your funeral plans! Consult our Funeral Planning Guide for suggestions on readings and hymns. The back page can be filled out and placed in your Will to let your family and friends know your funeral liturgy preferences. Please contact us if you have any questions about your funeral planning.
Please consider leaving a Legacy Gift to our parish upon your passing. Please see our Legacy Giving page for further details on this blessed act of stewardship!
Memorial Bricks for the Deceased
Customizable Memorial Bricks offer a lasting way for our parish to remember your loved one. Please visit our Memorial Bricks page to see our placement and size options.
Vigil Service
If possible, a priest or parishioner will come to the visitation (wake) at the funeral home to offer a Liturgy of the Word Service prior to the Funeral Mass. Please let us know if you would like this.
Funeral Mass
At the Funeral Mass, we unite our prayers with Christ, praying for the deceased and for one another. As we mourn, we commend our loved one to Christ who conquers sin and death.
Committal
The Funeral Liturgy is followed by a procession to the cemetery for interment of the body or cremains. These final prayers may be offered by a priest, parishioner, or funeral home personnel.
Funeral Liturgy outside Mass
When the Funeral Mass cannot be celebrated, a Funeral Liturgy outside Mass may take place in the funeral home. This is a Liturgy of the Word service with Final Commendation. This service does not include holy communion.
Memorial Mass
A Memorial Mass is offered for the deceased when his or her body or cremains are not present, and when no funeral liturgy has previously been offered on behalf of the deceased.
