What is a Mass Intention?
A Mass intention is a person, family, or group of people (living or deceased) prayed for by the priest and congregation at Mass. The priest offers the celebration of Mass in their honor or memory. Most commonly, people request intentions for deceased family or friends, but intentions can also be requested for special moments of life such as birthdays or anniversaries. In thanksgiving for the priest's prayers, the person requesting the intention traditionally offers a small stipend.
Scheduling a Mass Intention
To schedule a Mass intention for someone (living or deceased), please visit the Information Desk after Sunday Mass or call the parish office (216.731.1515). A stipend of $10 per intention is requested. Because of the quantity of intentions we receive, we have a limit of two Sunday Mass intentions and 5 weekday Mass intentions per year. This limit applies to the name of the intention, not to the person requesting the intention. We schedule intentions up to 18 months in advance.
If we do not have an opening on the date you wish to have your Mass intention celebrated, please visit the Diocesan Mission Office to have a priest in the missions pray for your intention in a timely manner.
If you, family, and friends are coming to the weekend Mass with your intention and would like to bring up the offertory gifts, please speak with a hospitality greeter in the vestibule before Mass begins.
