Baptized into the life of Christ, a man and a woman enter into a lifelong union with the Sacrament of Marriage. The marriage between a husband and a wife is an icon of the love of Christ and his bride, the Church. Marriage and family life is also modeled on Trinitarian love - the Father loves the Son, and the Son loves the Father, and the Holy Spirit is the fruit of their indwelling love. Marriage is a fruitful union of love between husband and wife open to the procreation and upbringing of the family in holiness. Marriage is always a sacrament between two baptized spouses.
