Pope Francis once said, “We must all come to really know Jesus. One cannot know Jesus without getting oneself involved with Him…”
There is a big difference between knowing about someone and actually knowing them. We may know all sorts of facts about a person – when they were born, where they work, their favorite color… But to really know someone takes effort. It means spending time or, as Pope Francis says, getting involved. And involvement is a never-ending journey.
We can never say to someone, “I know you and there is nothing more to know about you” because this shuts down the unfolding depth of mystery of a person. Relationships that “figure out” the other person like a math problem tend to become sterile very quickly. Our relationship with Jesus, what we can know and love about him, is inexhaustible and without end. There is always something more to know and love about Jesus! While we can and should know things about Jesus, to know him personally and intimately is the greatest gift ever.
So now, how would you answer the above question? Are you willing to get involved?
