The word “pray” means to
request or
plead more than it does to
worship. This is what Catholics have in mind when they speak of praying to saints. Catholics do not worship saints, angels, or any created thing. We only worship God. Any other worship is idolatry. This does not mean that we cannot ask angels, saints, or other people to pray for us. If it’s okay to
pray,request or
plead for our parents and friends to help us, then it is likewise okay to
beg and
plead for the angels and saints to come to our assistance. Understanding prayer as a request for a favor, we rightly pray first and foremost to God, but also to the communion of saints in heaven!
