God is the love that moves the sun and stars
SRW Women’s Fellowship recently embarked upon a journey through Dante’s Inferno with reflections for the Lenten season. Fr Gerald Bednar led the women’s fellowship retreat on February 10th at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Euclid with his hope-filled presentation of “Meet Dante, Your Guide for Lent: Insights from Hell & Purgatory.”
“Have you ever been stuck?” -- Like Dante who loses his way in the dark woods, we all become lost in sin. We create a hell that is not just where we are, but rather what we are. Our sins paralyze us so that we’re reluctant to change and travel into territory that is unfamiliar yet holier, even though this change will bring us closer to God. Take the risk of faith. God wants us to move toward new chapters and be moved by His wonder instead of becoming jaded and living a starless existence.
“Can you see your life, the whole of it, as a prayer back to God?” – Live your life in constant dialogue with God so that your life becomes your prayer back to Him. Shift your attention away from self and toward your compassionate master. Only God can reveal how you can be the human being you are supposed to be and what your life’s mission is. Let God use you as an instrument of his mercy in other people’s lives, the same way that He will influence others to reveal answers to your own personal prayers.
“What model do you follow?” – Find someone who is a role model of how to live a life of faithfulness; someone who can guide you on how to be the person God intends you to be. Be inspired by the lives of Mary and the saints and emulate their desires to become more holy.
“Deep down, every person is needy.” – Dante sees this universal neediness in humans as the true human condition. Our Lenten sacrifices – such as fasting and abstaining – bring us to a greater longing for God. All of us are dependent on Him, and we will find God through this pain of our neediness.
During our retreat, SRW Women’s Fellowship celebrated 10 years of ministry that is designed to encourage women of all ages to grow in their faith in Christ. We also strive to develop and strengthen friendships with other women, to deepen their prayer life, and to serve as a method of evangelization for women of the community. Please join us every second Saturday of the month from 9 AM to 11 AM on the grounds of SRW parish.
